Consists of letters from Merrill to Palau Tropical Biological Station, requesting copies of their publication, with accompanying note describing matter as "a good exhibit of red tape." Also, manuscript for: An index to Rafinesque's published technical names for the celluler cryptogams by E.D. Merrill and manuscript: A partial list of the present locations of authentically named William Roxburgh's phanerogams many being isotypes of perhaps holotypes of his Indian and Malayan species, compiled by E.D. Elmer Drew Merrill was born in East Auburn, Maine in 1876 and died in 1956. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Maine in 1898 and his master's in 1904. In 1902 he went to the Philippines where he remained for 21 years as professor of botany at the University of the Philippines and director of the Bureau of Science at Manila. He was a director of the Arnold Arboretum at Harvard and administrator of the botanical collections there. Before coming to Harvard in 1935 he served as...
